About Me

My name is Mindy Mays. I am an extremely proud mother of two amazing boys named Emmet and Anders. Lucky for me, I have a wonderful partner in life and business, Timothy. I earned a degree in Zoology from NC State University. My passion for photography became serious after the birth of my first son. My boys have been observed and recorded by a Mama holding a camera for eleven years now. My training is not formal, although I have taken classes and workshops for ten years now. My experience is however, abundant! I have been shooting portraits professionally for eight years. I truly love to photograph children. I treasure the time I spend following a child, shooting away, patiently waiting for that one honest photograph. I long for that slice of a moment that reveals a glimpse of the soul behind those bright and innocent eyes! In time I began photographing newborns. Need I say more? I promise you, they are angels on earth. About four years ago, I started photographing pregnant women. I believe a woman is most beautiful when sustaining two souls. The glow of pregnancy is in my eyes a blessing from God.

One day a brave and beautiful woman allowed me to photograph the birth of her child. I honestly cried the entire journey. I have delivered two children myself, but to witness birth was a life changing event for me. I watched that baby enter this world...and I am quite sure that every time a child is born…heaven extends into earth and then retracts. I believe God opens his hands and says, here is your gift, love this child with every breath you take.

Birth and motherhood inspired me to write this book. I hope this book inspires you. By the way, I am currently writing a second book called “The First Year of Life.” There is little doubt in my mind that even if my book doesn’t inspire you, your baby will! Good luck!
